1st Plumber To Call for Gas Line Repair: Warning Signs of a Gas Leak

Gas leaks can pose serious risks, so it’s crucial to be vigilant and recognize the warning signs. Here are some indicators that you might have a gas leak in your home:
  • Distinct Odor: Natural gas is odorless, but utility companies add a sulfur-like odorant called mercaptan to help detect leaks. If noticing the smell of rotten eggs or sulfur, chances are that you have a gas leak in your home.
  • Hissing Sounds: If you hear blowing or hissing sounds coming from a gas line, it’s essential to investigate further. This could indicate gas escaping from a damaged or loose pipe.
  • Dead or Discolored Vegetation: If the plants or grass around your gas lines suddenly wither, turn brown, or appear discolored, it may be due to a gas leak contaminating the soil.
  • Unexplained Health Issues: Exposure to natural gas can lead to headaches, nausea, dizziness, and breathing difficulties. If multiple family members experience these symptoms simultaneously, it could be a gas leak.
  • Bubbles in Water: If you notice bubbles or unusual turbulence in standing water near a gas line or in your plumbing, it may indicate a gas leak under or near your property.
  • Higher Gas Bills: A sudden, unexplained increase in your gas bills, especially if your usage habits haven’t changed, might signal a gas leak in your home. If you suspect a gas leak based on any of these warning signs, it’s essential to take immediate action. Evacuate the area, avoid creating sparks or open flames, and contact your gas company’s emergency line or 911 for assistance. Safety should always be your top priority.

Check Out These Crucial Tips to Follow During a Gas Leak

Gas leaks can be hazardous, and it’s essential to know how to respond swiftly and safely in such situations. Here are five vital tips to keep in mind if you suspect a gas leak:
  1. Evacuate Immediately: The moment you detect the smell of gas or suspect a leak, evacuate everyone from the premises, including pets.
  2. Do Not Use Electrical Devices: Avoid turning on or off any electrical switches, appliances, or devices, as even a tiny spark can ignite gas fumes. This includes not using phones, as a spark could occur during a call.
  3. Open Windows and Doors: If it’s safe to do so, open doors and windows to ventilate the area. This will help reduce the concentration of gas inside.
  4. Turn Off the Gas Supply: If you know how to do it safely, turn off the main gas supply valve. It’s essential to be familiar with the location of the gas shut-off valve in advance.
  5. Call 1st Plumber To Call for Help: Once you’re safely outside, call your gas company’s emergency line or 911 immediately. Report the gas leak and follow their instructions.
Remember that gas leaks are emergencies that require prompt action and expert assistance. Prioritize safety and follow these tips to protect yourself and your loved ones during a gas leak incident.

Joe went above and beyond to help my family locate, fix and remediate a plumbing leak. He was extremely honest and fair. He explained to me in layman’s terms exactly what and why each step needed to be done. It’s taken me 20 years to find a great plumber and now I have one I would use many times.

Had a water service main leak. Joe Mabrey responded quickly and determine the cause was in the irrigation system. He found the three solenoid valves and identified a faulty gasket in one. He replaced the gasket and then provided a low profile box to contain all three valves. Left the site as he found it and made sure that I had documentation to approach the Canton Water department to seek relief for the larger than usual water bills. He is now our 1st plumber to call!

Leak from frig—water going under kitchen floor, etc. Called Joe Mabrey Friday Morning; as soon as he finished job, would come by and at least turn off water. Did exactly as promised. Came back next morning, found water leak, fixed, cleaned out dust buildup with compressor. Another very good job by Mr Mabrey. Because of fast and experienced service, will probably not have damage costs.
